What's the difference between balayage and highlights?

Highlights are foiled — sections of hair are wrapped in foil and lifted from root to mid-length, giving maximum brightness and contrast. Balayage is hand-painted freehand, with lift concentrated through the mid-lengths and ends. The result is softer, more lived-in, and grows out without a harsh regrowth line. Most clients in Somerset West who want low-maintenance blonde go balayage. Clients chasing maximum lift or a brighter blonde go highlights.

How often should I touch up my blonde?

Balayage clients typically come back every 12–16 weeks. Full head highlights need refreshing every 8–10 weeks for maintenance. A toner-only visit at 6 weeks keeps the tone reading cool between colour appointments — a R550 add-on that doubles the lifespan of every colour service.

Do you offer Olaplex or bond-builder treatments?

Every blonding service at Hair Artistry By Alex includes a bond-builder treatment — currently the LeGrand Blue Dragonfruit smoothing pod (R390 retail value, included in the service). It protects integrity through the lift and is the reason clients walk out with healthy hair after a full platinum session. Olaplex is available on request.

How do I book an appointment in Somerset West?

Do you work on previously-coloured or box-dye blondes?

Yes — corrective colour is a regular part of the work. Box dye, brassy salon blonde, banded regrowth, over-toned violet, hot roots: all fixable. The first appointment for a corrective case usually runs longer (4+ hours) and gets quoted after a free in-studio consultation. WhatsApp a photo of your current hair and target tone for an initial estimate.

Inside Lush Hair & Beauty Boutique at 12 Gardner Williams Avenue, Paardevlei Rising, Somerset West 7130. It's a short drive from Strand, Gordon's Bay, Firgrove, Stellenbosch and the rest of the Helderberg. Free on-site parking. The studio is a private one-chair room inside the wider Lush hub — you book my chair, not the building.
